Owner Surrender; April 4, 2007
Reason: Owner stated she was surrendering Tinkerbell because she was aggressive toward her older blind dogs. No previous medical record could be obtain, the owner could only state to me a friend gave her Tinkerbell and promised medical records but was never given them.
Visual Evaluation upon surrender: Appearance clean, coat soft to the touch, general health appeared to be good. No aggression seen toward other dogs, was more scared of them and would run and hide Very timid and scared of humans and would also run and hide. Would not eat well.
Vet evaluation: As he shaved one area he would see more and more lesions; severe bacterial infection of the skin, fungus present, and she seemed in severe pain when you touch her skin. Suspected some kind of severe burns which penetrated through several layers of her skin from either, chemicals, hot grease, boiling hot water etc....
Aggressive treatment to follow the next 30 days: Major antibiotics for 30 days, bath twice a week in Malaseb, LymDyp dips every 10 days, animax ointment applied daily.
May 14, 2007 update:
TINKERBELL IS FIGHTING OFF MAJOR INFECTION AND NOW NEEDS SKIN GRAFTS. PLEASE WE NEED YOUR HELP TO CONTINUE HELPING TINKERBELL. We are now looking at over $3,000.00 or more dollars in surgery to continue to help her heal. The next few months Tinkerbell will be in for a huge fight! Please keep her in your prayers and help us help her if you can just dig a tiny bit deeper to find some extra change that can help..........

May 14, 2007 update:
Tinkerbell is in Surgery. They have to remove the huge scab on her back. It looks like a tortoise shell sitting on top of her back and she is in major pain. The burns were very very deep and when they remove this scab she will have to stay in the hospital for about 5 days in a sterile environment on heavy duty strong antibiotics. Please keep her in your prayers she makes it through this without major infection setting in.

May 16, 2007 update:
Tinkerbell had her first Surgery today to remove the scabbed area from her back. Dr. Taylor said what he has prepared is called a granulation bed before the skin grafts begin. She will come home Thursday on strong antibiotics and ointment for her skin. Pictures to follow.......

May 17, 2007 update:
Tinkerbell come home today and surprisingly she seems to be in good spirits. She is eating and drinking well and will have to be kept separated from any other animals. For the next 10 days she will be on 34 mg Baytril twice a day and Derma-Clens cream applied several times a day to keep the affected area moist. She has a appointment to go back to the doctor and start the skin grafts on May 29, 2007 if everything goes as planned. Tinkerbell sends lots of pug kisses to all of you who are helping her through the worst times of her life.
May 19, 2007 update:
Today her back is trying to scab up again in many places around the edges, but the center is remaining soft red and raw.
She doesn’t mind me spreading the cream on her back at all. I would have thought it would hurt her but she acts like it feels good. I think it must be itching some now and the slight rub feels good to her. In the mornings when I apply the cream the crushing comes off as I apply the cream.
Her spirits are high and she is very playful with me when I put her on my bed for a nap and some bonding time. She wiggles and tries to rub herself on me and licks my face non-stop as to say thank you over and over again. Finally she settles down on top of a pillow next to me for a nap. She continues to eat well and loves treat time!
May 25, 2007 update:
Tinkerbell continues to heal and feel better with each passing day. She needs so much of the cream I had to go back and buy another tub of it yesterday. I am trying to keep cleaning around the wound about every 2 to 4 hours to keep it nice and moist from drying out. She seems to love the cleaning and acts like it feel good for me to rub around the wound. She acts as if it itches and the rubbing is soothing to her. Five more days to go until the vet starts the skin grafts. Keep those prays for her coming, they certainly are working!
