PEDIGREE HONORS SUMMERFIELD, N.C. RESIDENT FOR HER

DEDICATION TO PUG RESCUE EFFORTS

Chris Hedrick Named Breed Rescue Hero

WHO:         PEDIGREE recently honored Chris Hedrick of Summerfield, N.C. with the Breed Organization Hero award for her continuous dedication to Pug rescue efforts.

Since 1993 Hedrick has been saving the lives of countless Pugs.  She installed a kennel in her home allowing her to house 32 dogs and accommodate the overflow from local shelters. Through fundraising efforts, she has raised $218,142 to cover the vet and medical expenses of 761 Pugs.  Additionally, she was responsible for organizing 150 volunteers across 9 states to uncover various puppy mills.  As a result 55 dogs were rescued.  It is in recognition of her commitment to bettering the lives of Pugs PEDIGREE presented Hedrick with this honor.

WHAT:       Each year, PEDIGREE partners with the Westminster Kennel Club to execute an awards program that recognizes individuals, organizations and shelter/rescue groups that lend a hand to help homeless dogs in their area.  The awards, handed out on February 7, 2009, were given to those who work tirelessly to raise funds for dog-related causes.

Winners received an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City where they were recognized for their charitable contributions at the annual PEDIGREE Awards Dinner.  They were also given box-seat tickets to the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

WHY:          The sad truth is that more than four million dogs end up in shelters and breed rescues every year, and nearly half of those canines never find a place to call home.  To help reverse this trend, five years ago PEDIGREE Food for Dogs created The PEDIGREE Adoption Drive, an awareness and fundraising campaign, to help shine a spotlight on the plight of homeless dogs.  Because of their love for dogs, the PEDIGREE Brand wants to honor those who share the same passion and recognize them for their hard work and dedication to helping four-legged friends in need.
