Adoption Information and Process

Please note that dogs are NOT house broken unless otherwise noted.

Please consider becoming a online Virtual Adoptive Parent for one of our fostered pugs.

For questions pertaining our pugs in foster care, please contact us.

Note: Our adoption process begins with completion of an adoption application. We attempt to match you with the best suitable pet so the adoption process turns out to be a good loving experience for your family as well as the pet you adopt.

Adoption Fee: Puppies under 6 months old:  $400.00
(Please note:  We rarely get puppies in the rescue system)

Adoption Fee: adults 5 years old and under $250.00

Adoption Fee: adults 6 years old and over $125.00

Please read ALL the information below before completing the application. Dogs often live longer than 15 years and are a lifelong commitment and not just a passing whim. Will you take responsibility for his/her entire life? If you are not totally 100% committed to the lifetime of a pug if approved to adopt from us, please do not apply until you are 100% certain. It is not fair to the pug to be bounced from home to home or be homeless. We are guardians of the pugs we rescue and must put their well-being first; we hope you understand.

NOTICE: Due to the number of applications received, we only keep submitted applications on file for 30 days. PRONC's adoption process begins with filling out the adoption application. Once that is done, we take the applications of those most suitable for the available Pug and begin email communication with them. This could be anywhere from two applicants to 10 applicants; no one is guaranteed adopting a pug by filling out this adoption.

  • We begin reducing the number through email communications, vet reference checks, phone interviews and home checks. We want to be certain that we place the right pug with the right Forever home! This way we can rest assured it will be a good experience for the pug and human.
  • We cover many different states. We are a volunteer organization and do not have a shelter or paid employees. All of our rescues are in private foster homes and require scheduled appointments with those who help us by fostering our rescued dogs.
  • We are a certified non-profit in the state of North Carolina, and are a publicly supported 501 c3 organization and operate solely on donations.
  • We require the approved applicants to travel to the location in which the dog is being fostered with any current dog(s) to meet the potential new family member.
  • We do not ship. The following guidelines have been established to speed up the placement process. To submit an application you can either complete it online (fastest) or download a PDF version of our adoption application, which should be printed, filled out and mailed in to us. It is essential that we have a name and phone number of your veterinarian that can verify that your current and/or past pets meet our policy requirements. In order to be considered for one of the animals in our program; it is our policy that your other animals be spayed or neutered, current on all vaccines including rabies, parvo, distemper, and are on heartworm preventative.
  • We do not require fenced in yards in our program unless a certain pug requires it. For your convenience include all questions and comments at the end of the application. The foster parent will contact you after they have reviewed your application. Please remember that we are a volunteer organization. All of our volunteers have full time jobs, families, etc. and use their free time to check emails and get your application processed.

If you haven't heard from us and want to check on your application, please check our web site to see if the pug in question has already been adopted or contact us through email at admin@pugrescuenc.org. You can also contact us via phone at 336-312-2983 (North Carolina) or 757-240-0815 (Virginia).

Remember: We rescue pugs regardless of age or health; many come from shelters and pounds that are sick and in bad need of medical attention, and some are owner surrenders and strays as well. We provide medical attention to the best of our ability, update all vaccines, micro chip, spay and neuter each pug, and address any other medical needs which deem necessary to save their life within our budget "BEFORE" they are ready for adoption. We rarely know any background history about the pugs we rescue or if they are house trained or not.

DUE TO THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS WE RECEIVE WE ARE UNABLE TO REPLY TO EVERY APPLICATION.

You can download the newest version of the FREE Adobe Reader here.

You can obtain a PDF version of our adoption application here, which should be printed, filled out and mailed in. Or complete our online application.

If you wish to surrender a pug for subsequent placement by PRONC, you can obtain a PDF version of our Pet Relinquishment Form here, which should be printed, filled out and mailed in. Or complete our online form instead. Be very careful whom you release your pug to. There are many people out there only wanting to get your pug to sell it for money, dog fighting, puppy mill breeding style or even use it for animal testing! Don't be fooled by a scam. Do the best thing for the Pug; get them to a safe place where it will be loved and cared for by professionals of a legitimate organization!

WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ANY APPLICANT!
